Speech Therapy

Enhance interaction and engagement.
Friendship Pediatrics speech language therapists evaluate and treat clients with communication deficits as well as feeding/swallowing difficulties. Speech Language therapists specialize in treating disorders/delays in language, articulation, fluency, voice, oral motor and feeding skills. Speech therapy addresses communication and/or feeding needs resulting from a variety of conditions including, but not limited to prematurity, hearing impairment, autism spectrum disorder, cerebral palsy, global developmental delay, traumatic brain injury, cleft lip/palate, phonological disorder, and dysarthria. Our pediatric speech language therapists work on incorporating functional communication activities through play-based activities. Speech language therapists assist in providing the tools needed for families and teachers to promote functional communication throughout the day in our classroom, home, and community through a multi-modal approach which may include use of technology, picture-based communication systems, functional sign language in addition to oral communication.
Speech Therapists are available to provide therapy services in our developmental preschools and our outpatient therapy clinics for individuals ages birth to 21.
What To Expect From A Speech Therapy Session
A therapist will use play-based activities to help a child express what they want, understand what they hear, and effectively interact with others. An initial assessment will evaluate and treat clients with communication deficits as well as feeding/swallowing difficulties. Each session will provide life-changing benefits:
- Engage in reciprocal activities to follow multi-step direction and sequencing.
- Learn articulation and sound production to improve the quality of speech.
- Understand sounds for better auditory processing and appropriate responses.
- Develop social skills to express emotion and follow rules for conversation.
- Address motor improvements for children who need to improve feeding or swallowing.
